The Teacher Education Transfer programs prepare students for transfer to four-year institutions with New York State teacher-certification authority in three areas: early childhood, childhood, and adolescence education. Early Childhood Education spans birth through grade 2; Childhood Education spans grades 1-6; and Adolescence Education spans grades 7-12. (Those with Childhood Education certification can also qualify to teach middle school by taking additional course work in a subject area specialty.)
SUNY Delhi has collaborated with eight SUNY teacher education programs to permit seamless transfer from Delhi to these four-year institutions, in most instances with junior status. Since SUNY’s teacher education programs may alter admissions requirements and selectivity, students must carefully plan their teacher education program of study with an academic advisor. Students are advised that most transfer schools require a minimum grade point average ranging from 2.5 to 3.0, as well as faculty recommendations specific to the Teacher Education Transfer program.
SUNY General Education Requirements:
Students who intend to receive AA, AS, or baccalaureate degrees must satisfy SUNY and campus General Education (GE) requirements to graduate. Students should be aware that GE requirements may vary by academic program. AAS and AOS degree students may not be required to fulfill General Education (GE) requirements; however, any student who may wish to transfer should complete as many GE courses as possible. Consult with your academic advisor.
Program Learning Outcomes
A graduate of the Teacher Education Transfer AS program should be able to:
- Demonstrate a basic knowledge of liberal arts by meeting the standards established by the institution’s general education assessment criteria.
- Demonstrate professional communications and behaviors within the educational community.
- Develop a theoretical understanding of teaching practice.
- Apply a pedagogical perspective to their chosen area of academic concentration.
- Identify their role in creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment for a diverse population of students.
