This clinical and lab-based course builds upon foundational nursing concepts across the lifespan, preparing students to manage care for diverse clients. Clinical and lab experiences emphasize the Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes (KSAs) required to apply the multiple dimensions of Patient Centered Care, Safety, Quality Improvement, Informatics, Teamwork and Collaboration, and Evidence Based Practice. The nursing process is utilized and integrated throughout this course as the active foundation for nursing practice and the development of holistic client care. Evidence-based nursing practices will be actively applied, including assessment skills, communication techniques, and incorporating essential safety measures.
Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:
- Perform evidence based care of the client using assessment skills, basic pharmacological principles, therapeutic communication, and collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Perform increasingly complex skills used in nursing care, incorporating essential quality and safety measures.
- Integrate health related informatics in the care of the client.
- Apply principles of client education that promote client wellness.
- Demonstrate competency in drug dose calculation and medication administration.
- Apply the nursing process to develop individualized plans of care.
