General Education: Written Communication (23WC) and Information Literacy (23IL/INFA)

Required Knowledge and Skills Area: Written Communication (23WC)

To meet this General Education requirement, students will be able to:

research a topic, develop an argument, and organize supporting details;
demonstrate coherent college-level written communication that informs, persuades, or otherwise engages with an audience;
evaluate communication for substance, bias, and intended effect;
demonstrate the ability to revise and improve written communication.

Required Core Competency: Information Literacy (23IL/INFA)

To meet this General Education requirement, students will be able to:

locate information effectively using tools appropriate to their need and discipline;
evaluate information from a variety of sources with an awareness of authority, validity, bias, and origin; and
demonstrate an understanding of the ethical dimensions of information use, creation, and dissemination, whether from traditional sources or emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence.

Note: While these courses satisfy both the “Written Communication” and the “Information Literacy” General Education requirements at SUNY Delhi, transfer courses may not satisfy both categories. Transfer coursework satisfies General Education requirements based on how the course was offered at the college/university where the course was taken.
