Prerequisite(s): Passing grade in ENGL 100  or score of 47 or higher on the ASSET Writing and Reading placement tests
This is the advanced writing course offered by the College. Students will be instructed on the rhetorical strategies used in persuasive and expository prose.  Students will refine the skills of academic research, information literacy, and style introduced in ENGL 100 through drafting and revision. They will incorporate critical thinking into the composition of analytical and researched essays.  

Student Learning Outcomes of the Course: The General Education requirement for Written Communication is satisfied by ENGL 200. To meet this General Education requirement, students will be able to:

  1. research a topic, develop an argument, and organize supporting details;
  2. demonstrate coherent college-level written communication that informs, persuades, or otherwise engages with an audience;
  3. evaluate communication for substance, bias, and intended effect;
  4. demonstrate the ability to revise and improve written communication.

The General Education requirement for Information Literacy is satisfied by ENGL 200. To meet this General Education requirement, students will be able to:

  1. locate information effectively using tools appropriate to their need and discipline;
  2. evaluate information from a variety of sources with an awareness of authority, validity, bias, and origin; and
  3. demonstrate an understanding of the ethical dimensions of information use, creation, and dissemination, whether from traditional sources or emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence.
