ALHT 402 - Teaching and Learning in Healthcare

This course focuses on the healthcare professional as an educator. Theories, teaching strategies, and the development of teaching plans for educating patients, families, and other healthcare professionals will be examined. Students will explore how to assess learner characteristics and readiness for learning including assessment of health literacy. Technology-based web, cloud applications, and mobile apps will be integrated in the course, both as tools for learning and tools for teaching. Equivalent to NURS 402. 

Student Learning Outcomes of the Course: Upon successful completion of the course, the learner will:

  1. Appraise learning theories, learning styles, and research literature, related to teaching and learning
  2. Assess characteristics of learners and readiness for learning
  3. Evaluate web, mobile, and e-resources for use in teaching and learning
  4. Apply concepts and principles of teaching and learning to design and delivery of a comprehensive, age-appropriate teaching plan practice
