CNST 230 - Site Safety Management

Prerequisite(s): None
The purpose of this course is to introduce job site hazards, as identified by OSHA, and review compliant and safe construction methods and practices. The course shall also ensure that the environmental hazards of chemicals and building materials that are brought to the construction project site are disclosed to all persons who may be affected. Such information concerning their potential hazards, proper handling, storage, and appropriate safe usage shall be fully understood and transmitted to employers and employees. This course should be viewed as a comprehensive hazardous communication program tailored to meet OSHA safety requirements as prescribed by law for general site safety practices.  

Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:
  1. Compare the differences between safe and unsafe working conditions on a job site.
  2. Identify potentially hazardous or hazardous chemical substances on the job site.
  3. Identify fire hazards and the conditions under which ignition might occur.
  4. Identify acute and chronic health hazards of chemicals along with the physical signs and symptoms of exposure and the pirmary routes of entry into the body. 
  5. Examine an approved safety program for safe handling and use of chemicals and building products while at work. 
  6. Discuss a series of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for chemicals and products common to the workplace.
  7. Recognize applicable codes, test procedures, and specifications related to the topics covered.
