NURS 509 - Rural Health for Advanced Practice Nursing

This course provides the foundational concepts, issues and competencies related to the delivery of health services in rural and under-served communities. Trends in rural healthcare delivery will be explored within an interprofessional framework. Principles of advanced-level nursing practice will be applied to the administration of rural healthcare delivery. Application of caring practices will address the health equity needs within rural populations and communities.  

Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:
  1. Examine issues and trends in rural healthcare delivery within the context of advanced-level nursing practice within an interprofessional framework. 
  2. Analyze the social determinants of health within rural populations and their impact on the health experiences of individuals, families, and communities
  3. Apply caring practices to the health equity needs of rural populations, supported by principles of advanced-level nursing practice.
  4. Demonstrate competencies of rural health issues and their relevance for nursing care of rural and underserved populations.
