This course will introduce students to various forms of creative nonfiction, including but not limited to personal essay and memoir. The course will be both reading- and writing-intensive as students read examples in the genre and produce their own texts.
Student Learning Outcomes of the Course: The General Education requirement for The Arts is satisfied by ENGL 305. To assess the General Education requirements, when you have completed this course, you will be able to:
- demonstrate an understanding of at least one principal form of artistic expression and the creative process inherent therein.
Students who successfully complete ENGL 305 (course-specific SLOs) will be able to:
- demonstrate an understanding of the principles and elements used in the art form under study to produce a creative work in the chosen medium.
- be able to analyze and interpret the art form under study.
- recognize differences in structure across various creative nonfiction genres
- write texts that conform to various genres of creative nonfiction
