This course provides theoretical understanding and manual training in welding safety, arc welding power sources and electrodes. Skills necessary to make quality shielded metal arc welds in all positions are developed by the students using mild steel electrodes.

Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:

Demonstrate knowledge of the theory and operation of shielded metal arc welding.
Demonstrate knowledge of the principles required to produce acceptable welds in all positions according to A.W.S standards.
Demonstrate knowledge of safety standards for S.M.A.W. and oxy/fuel equipment.
Demonstrate knowledge of filler metal classifications and its properties.
