The nursing capstone practicum course enables students to foster individual career goals and refine essential baccalaureate nursing skills through critical decision making, leadership, and evidence-based practice. The student plans and completes an individualized practicum experience guided by faculty and a preceptor in an approved health agency. Course content includes development of interprofessional communication and collaboration skills, preparation for career employment, practicum reflections, and achievement of BSN End-of-Program Student Learning Outcomes.
Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:
- Integrate knowledge, theory, and evidence from nursing, allied health, and liberal arts into planning, designing, delivering, and evaluating a capstone project in a health setting.
- Collaborate and communicate with interprofessional teams, health care providers, clients, families, and/or communities to achieve the outcomes of an evidence-based practicum project.
- Apply principles and strategies of leadership and quality improvement, guided by concepts of cultural and social diversity, in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of professional nursing practice.
- Analyze the influence of diversity, health equity, and social determinants of health to improve patient care and/or nursing practice.
- Analyze BSN End-of-Program Student Learning Outcomes and their impact on professional nursing practice.
