EVNT 345 - Festival and Cultural Event Management

This course provides students with an understanding of the management of cultural and community-based festivals and events. This important segment of the industry includes events of all scale from small community gatherings to large international celebrations. Students will also explore the economic and social impacts of festivals and cultural events and the critical role they have played in societies throughout history.

Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:  

1. Examine the key elements of festival planning including logistics, permitting, staffing, vendor relationships, and marketing

2. Reflect on the important cultural, economic, and social roles that festivals and community celebrations play in society

3.Compare the forms of culture including theater, performing arts, music, fine art and museum event and the different events typically held in each category

4. Describe the unique risk management considerations associated with festivals, parades, and public events

5. Analyze the strategies festival managers use to create an all-encompassing event experience through cohesive event planning and design

6. Recognize and apply available and emerging technologies

7. Adhere to classroom policies and demonstrate/exhibit professional behavior
