EVNT 215 - Event Design & Production

This course provides students with an understanding of the critical role design and production play in bringing special events to life. This course will highlight the important distinctions between planning an event and designing and producing an event. Students will study the theories that inform event design and learn how to implement design elements to create cohesive, themed events. Students will also gain important knowledge of event production components and their operations, such as lighting, video, sound and special effects.

Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:  

1. Define components of design theory and event aesthetics, including shape, form, color, and texture.

2. Identify important décor elements and understand the best utilization of props, flowers, fabric décor, balloon art, furniture, and more.

3. Explain event production features including lighting, video, sound, and special effects.

4. Illustrate elements of successful graphic design in event materials including invitations, social media images, signage, event programs, and menus.

5. Develop a comprehensive event theme & integrate the theme into all aspects of an event.

6. Recognize and apply available and emerging event production technologies.

7. Discuss the history of a design aesthetic and its application in the special events industry.

8. Adhere to classroom policies and demonstrate/exhibit professional behavior.
