This course provides a comprehensive overview of the international building code as it applies to building design and construction. Emphasis is placed on the recognition and application of the most common code provisions, particularly those that affect life safety. In addition, the legal basis for, and typical provisions of, local zoning codes are explored.
Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:
- Students will research and complete assignments on navigating the code, case studies of code issues and projects pertaining to proper and improper use of building codes.
- Students will analyze past and present projects and the use of building codes during these projects.
- Students will research the variances of codes country to country, state to state, county to county.
- Students will research and develop final projects pertaining to their overall knowledge of building codes and zoning.
