This clinical and lab based course emphasizes concepts of care of the ill client across the lifespan including caring behaviors and interventions, managing care, collaboration, palliation, safety, quality improvement and informatics. The nursing process is incorporated throughout this course as the foundation for nursing practice and the development of holistic client care. Evidence-based nursing practice will be integrated, including assessment skills, communication techniques, and competencies incorporating essential safety measures.

Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:

Perform evidence based care of the client using assessment skills, basic pharmacological principles, therapeutic communication, and collaboration with the healthcare team.
Perform increasingly complex competencies and skills used in nursing care, incorporating essential safety measures.
Apply principles of client education that promote client wellness.
Demonstrate competency in drug dose calculation and medication administration.
Develop understanding of the nursing process incorporating plan of care.
