An integrated lecture and laboratory format is used to study how the body maintains itself on a day-to- day basis through water and electrolyte balance, circulation, respiration, digestion, and excretion, as well as how the continuity of the species is maintained. Clinical applications are cited that illustrate the disruption of homeostasis.

Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the methods scientists use to explore natural phenomena, including observation, hypothesis development, measurement and data collection, experimentation, evaluation of evidence, and employment of mathematical analysis.
Students will apply scientific data, concepts, and models in one of the natural sciences.
Describe the fundamental concepts of structure and function of the human body integrating a systems approach to include cells, tissues, movement, protection, sensation, coordination, transport, and continuity.
