ENGL 110 - Technical Communication Credit Hours: 3 Lecture Hours: 3 General Education Code(s): AOWC, AOIL, AOOC Other Course Attribute(s): LASC
This course introduces students to communication expectations of employers and consumers in technical and industrial contexts. With an emphasis on clarity, persuasion, and concision in informative documents, this course will help students to develop their written and oral communication skills in interpersonal, group, and media settings.
Student Learning Outcomes of the Course: The General Education requirement for Oral Communication (AOOC) is satisfied by ENGL 110. To meet this General Education requirement, students will be able to:
- research a topic, develop an argument, and organize supporting details;
- demonstrate coherent college-level oral communication that informs, persuades, or otherwise engages with an audience;
- evaluate communication for substance, bias, and intended effect; and
- demonstrate the ability to revise and improve oral communication.
The General Education requirement for Written Communication (AOWC) is satisfied by ENGL 110. To meet this General Education requirement, students will be able to:

- demonstrate coherent college-level written communication that informs, persuades, or otherwise engages with an audience;
- evaluate communication for substance, bias, and intended effect;

The General Education requirement for Information Literacy (AOIL) is satisfied by ENGL 110. To meet this General Education requirement, students will be able to:
- locate information effectively using tools appropriate to their need and discipline;
- evaluate information with an awareness of authority, validity, and bias;
- demonstrate an understanding of the ethical dimensions of information use, creation, and dissemination.
