Lean Construction, following the concepts derived from the Toyota Production System, is introducing new management strategies and tools to minimize costs and maximize value on construction projects. This course will cover the Lean Construction concepts that are being applied in the industry: construction variation and workflow, pull in production systems, pull plan scheduling, The Last Planner® System, 5S, visual controls, quality at the source, standardized work, workforce and management practices, lean design and pre-construction and problem solving principles and tools.

Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:
- Compare traditional construction organizational culture and lean organizational culture.
- Identify appropriate lean construction tools and concepts for construction project management.
- Structure project schedules utilizing pull plan methods and Last Planner System® concepts.
- Explain foundational lean techniques (5S, visual controls, standardized work, continuous flow, pull systems and just-in time delivery).
- Determine construction process activity waste and mitigation strategies.
- Experiment with lean construction problem-solving principles and tools.
