Restriction(s): Students must be enrolled in the Master of Science in Criminal Justice program

This course focuses on the development of research methods in criminal justice and criminological research.  Students will investigate key issues, concepts, and topics related to research methods including ethical practice, hypothesis development, research design, data collection, analysis, and the connection between policy and research. Qualitative and quantitative methodologies will be explored. 

Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:
  1. Interpret research methodologies regarding current research in the field of criminal justice.
  2. Develop literature reviews and critical arguments by synthesizing research and data pertaining to topics in criminal justice.
  3. Apply qualitative and quantitative research methodologies to current topics in the criminal justice field.
  4. Identify the key components that are directly relevant to research methods in the field of criminal justice and criminological research. 
  5. Develop ethical research strategies in order to mitigate risk across the research process.
