Credit Hours: 3
Lecture Hours: 3
Laboratory (or Other) Hours: 0

Prerequisite(s): ARCH 370

Thesis Research will be a catalyst for developing and clarifying concepts to be explored, possible project ideas to be tested, and research completed in a specific area of interest within an architectural discourse. Through guided lectures and readings, individuals will complete research that will form the conceptual foundation for the attitudes, objectives, and framework for architectural ideas that will be further investigated during the spring studio (Design Project). Thesis research will culminate in a final research paper that will focus on an individually specified thesis. The result of this lecture class and final studio will be a Thesis Portfolio that will gather the cumulative collection of the work generated over the year including this written research. The work produced during Thesis Research will be a prerequisite for the student’s final studio, Thesis Studio, ARCH 490

Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:
  1. Construct a body of work; written, visual and verbal, that responds to the complex discourse within the field of architecture.
  2. Discover a broad scope of theoretical thinking that has influenced our current ideas of the build environment.
  3. Imagine a personal design thesis by engaging in both written and visual investigations.
