This course is designed to introduce the student to the principles, techniques, procedures, materials and equipment used in the maintenance of recreational areas and facilities.

Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:

Explain general maintenance principles.
Analyze the guidelines for planning and organizing maintenance programs.
Evaluate methods of reducing depreciative behavior and vandalism in parks and recreation areas.
Analyze the requirements for assuring the protection of visitors, land and facilities at parks and recreation areas.
Determine the space and facility requirements for a given maintenance program.
Analyze the maintenance tasks that are unique to recreation areas and facilities such as picnic areas, playgrounds, athletic fields, aquatic facilities, beaches, campgrounds, trails, golf courses, recreation buildings, etc.
Analyze the maintenance tasks for selected support facilities at park and recreation areas.
