BIOL 225 - Human Anatomy & Physiology II

Credit Hours: 4
Lecture Hours: 3
Laboratory (or Other) Hours: 3

General Education Code(s): 23NS, 23RE
Other Course Attribute(s): LASC, LSCI

Prerequisite(s): BIOL 220  or permission of the instructor
An integrated lecture and laboratory format is used to study how the body maintains itself on a day-to-day basis through water and electrolyte balance, circulation, respiration, digestion, and excretion, as well as how the continuity of the species is maintained. Clinical applications are cited that illustrate the disruption of homeostasis.

Student Learning Outcomes of the Course: The general education requirement for natural sciences is satisfied by BIOL 225. To meet this General Education requirement, students will be able to:

  1. demonstrate scientific reasoning applied to the natural world, including an understanding of the methods scientists use to explore natural phenomena, including observation, hypothesis development, measurement and data collection, experimentation, evaluation of evidence, and employment of data analysis or mathematical modeling; and
  2. demonstrate scientific reasoning applied to the natural world, including application of scientific data, concepts, and models in one of the natural sciences.

The general education requirement for critical thinking is satisfied by BIOL 225. To meet this General Education requirement, students will be able to:

  1. clearly articulate an issue or problem;
  2. identify, analyze, and evaluate ideas, data, and arguments as they occur in their own or others’ work;
  3. acknowledge limitations such as perspective and bias; and
  4. develop well-reasoned (logical) arguments to form judgments and/or draw conclusions.

Course-specific SLOs for BIOL 225:

  1. Describe the fundamental concepts of structure and function of the human body integrating a systems approach to include cells, tissues, movement, protection, sensation, coordination, transport, and continuity.
