Selected topics include: analysis of basic forces, conditions for equilibrium, truss analysis, stress-strain relationships, riveted and bolted connections, investigation of simple beams by shear and moment diagrams, steel and timber beam analysis and design, and simple column analysis and design.
Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:
- The students will generate load tracing for residential, commercial, & heavy construction projects. Student work will be individually.
- Students will work in groups to learn the properties for different materials through laboratory experimentation. The students will incorporate this data into structural design.

- The students will learn and use the software 3d Lift Plan.com residential, commercial, & heavy construction projects.
- Students will research applicable codes and specifications for different types of structures. Students will learn about the role of the structural engineer.
- Students will learn act professionally in both lecture and lab settings. ACCE Student Learning Outcome (SLO) # 12: Recognize the basic principles of structural design.
