This course is an introduction to the principles and methodology of contemporary sociology, with an emphasis on the major sociological issues confronting society. Areas examined in depth are role behavior, socialization, class relations, religion, minority relationships, deviance, social institutions, and social change.
Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:
- Students will be familiar with basic concepts associated with group social structure
- Students will be able to articulate the distinctions in the primary macro- and micro-level theories in sociology
- Students will identify and distinguish the basic social institutions in societies
- Students will be able to identify and distinguish among the primary methodologies used by sociologists
