This course offers an introduction to law and the legal system in the United States, with emphasis on the courts, state and federal, and their procedures; the law of Contracts and the law of Agency. Applicable sections of the Uniform Commercial Code are studied and analyzed. Case studies are used extensively.

Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:

The student will be able to describe the United States legal system, including state and federal courts and their procedures
The student will be able to distinguish between criminal and civil law
The student will be able to demonstrate an understanding of contracts with respect to the requisites, enforceability, forms, obligations, and discharge or release
The student will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the principle-agent relationship, especially relating to employment
The student will be able to describe basic methods of consumer, borrower, and creditor protection
