This course will introduce students to the key concepts of the healthcare policy process. Students will examine the interactions between government, healthcare providers, consumers, and insurers and how they impact policy and programmatic decisions in the workplace and community. Various contemporary healthcare policy topics surrounding the current US healthcare system and systems of other developed nations will be explored such as financing, quality and safety, and services.
Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:
- Investigate historical events and public policies which have shaped the current healthcare delivery system in the United States.
- Compare and contrast the strengths and limitations of the healthcare delivery system.
- Analyze economic, social, cultural, natural, and political factors which affect the healthcare delivery system.
- Analyze the relationships between local, state, and national health policy and the current healthcare delivery system.
- Compare and contrast the healthcare delivery system in the United States with the healthcare delivery system in other selected countries.
