ARCH 409 - Contemporary Practice Credit Hours: 3 Lecture Hours: 3 Laboratory (or Other) Hours: 0
Prerequisite(s): ARCH 330 This course explores the profession of architecture as a multidisciplinary practice that balances the realities of diverse stakeholders while encouraging emerging designers to understand the implications of their decisions. Architecture is a varied field that requires adaptability within the contexts we encounter, recognizing that the choices we make endure long after a project is considered “complete.” Beyond technical and aesthetic considerations, we will examine the moral and ethical responsibilities inherent in design. How do our decisions affect communities, the environment, and future generations? Understanding the power and consequences of design will be a central theme as we critically engage with the profession and its broader societal impact.
Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:
- understand how the profession of architecture can be undertaken professionally and ethically
- understand the social, political, and economic implications of design.
- understand how space, experience, accessibility, and codification of architecture overlap
