Prerequisite(s): Human Anatomy and Physiology I & II (BIOL 220 & 225) (minimum grade C), NURS 110 & NURS 115 (minimum grade C+) Restriction(s): Nursing Major Only (Dual Degree)
This course is designed to facilitate the foundational and fundamental understanding of basic pharmacology. The course provides a comprehensive overview of pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of different types of medications. This course will introduce advanced understanding of pharmacology principles, nursing assessments, concept based understanding and further exposure to NCLEX style pharmacology questions.
Student Learning Outcomes of the Course: 1. Demonstrate advanced nursing assessment techniques related to medication administration to inform clinical decision-making.
2. Develop comprehensive understanding of pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics.
3. Apply critical thinking and clinical reasoning skill related to medications in NCLEX style questions and examinations.
4. Perform accurate medication calculations and demonstrate safe medication administration within the Registered Nurse’s scope of practice.
5. Utilize effective communication strategies in interprofessional collaborations and patient education related to pharmacology
