NURS 175 - Transition of Role: LPN to RN

This course is designed to bridge the transition of Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) to the Registered Nurse (RN) role. The course provides a comprehensive foundation for expanding the scope of practice and developing the critical thinking skills necessary for success in an RN program and professional practice. Using a hybrid format of online learning and on-campus simulation practice, this course builds upon the existing knowledge and skills of LPNs while introducing advanced concepts and practices essential to RN-level care. The course focuses on enhancing health assessment skills, deepening understanding of the nursing process, and developing individualized care plans.

Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:
  1. Demonstrate comprehensive health assessment techniques and accurately interpret findings to inform clinical decision-making.
  2. Develop comprehensive, patient-centered care plans using the nursing process.
  3. Apply critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills to complex patient scenarios and nursing interventions.
  4. Perform accurate medication calculations and demonstrate safe medication administration within the Registered Nurse’s scope of practice.
  5. Utilize effective communication strategies in interprofessional collaborations and patient education.
  6. Articulate the expanded role and responsibilities of the Registered Nurse in various healthcare settings.
