ARCH 345 - Energy and Sustainable Systems Credit Hours: 3 Lecture Hours: 3 Laboratory (or Other) Hours: 0
Prerequisite(s): ENGL 100 or ENGL 200 This course is an introduction to present and future sustainable energy/electrical power systems, including alternative/renewable power, interface to the utility grid, and efficient utilization of energy. Students will explore sustainable design principles including passive design strategies and active Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing building and transportation systems and how they relate, site, region, and human health and safety.
Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:
- Explain the relationship between energy systems, global climate change and sustainability.
- Compare renewable and non-renewable energy sources and distribution systems.
- Analyze passive and active environmental systems for building design.
- Analyze sustainable and efficient modes of transportation and their relevant technology.
- Analyze how site and region impact environmental systems and sustainable design.
- Evaluate sustainable energy policy and land use practices.
