CJUS 630 - Crime Victim Studies

This course explores an in-depth perspective of victimology, victim services, and victim advocacy, and assess the impact on victimization through victimological theories, available data, and the trauma and recovery process. An overview of victim prevention programs and victim assistance programs will be presented. This course further includes effective responses to specific crime victims, including victims of family violence, sexual assault, and cyber-crime. Challenges of victim assistance and multicultural competency issues are also covered.     

Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:
  1. Analyze case studies in order to understand issues in modern victimology, victim services and victim advocacy.
  2. Develop evidence-based potential solutions and improvements to the modern fields of criminal justice and victim services.
  3. Apply victimology theories to assess the field of criminal justice in the modern day.
  4. Describe examples of responses to crime victims, services and resources for primary and secondary victims.
  5. Evaluate the effectiveness of victim assistance programs.
