This course combines the key concepts of health policy development and technology used in healthcare systems. Learners will examine the following: the impact of policy on healthcare structure and delivery, vulnerable populations, disparities in healthcare, and how health policy reform influences patient outcomes. Technology in healthcare systems will be explored for its impact upon healthcare delivery and organizational outcomes.

Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:

Explore healthcare quality indicators and selected healthcare informatics systems for their influence on policy development and healthcare delivery
Analyze individual, community, and societal determinants of vulnerable populations, healthcare disparities, and current legislative efforts to preserve individual and group rights
Conceptualize the integration of policy development and informatics to enable positive change in healthcare delivery
Integrate the healthcare policy legislative process with informatics concepts to address needs of vulnerable populations.
