An integrative summary course for senior bachelor’s degree students, this seminar provides an opportunity for students to inquire, research, and contribute as part of a student-oriented group-study program. Teaching methods include lectures, case studies, shared inquiry, and management games. Readings relevant to current topics in the industry are required.

Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:

Define and discuss the necessary actions that must be taken to be prepared for management position within the hospitality industry
Articulate the characteristics of effective entrepreneurs and identify resources available to individuals seeking to develop their own businesses within the hospitality industry
Synthesize knowledge of customer service and value to understand its impacts on profitability
Examine traditional and contemporary theories of leadership to formulate personal mission statements and leadership philosophies
Demonstrate an understanding of effective organizational change management through active debate and discussion of the Eight Stage Change Model and its applicability to the hospitality industry
Formulate a personal and organizational framework for ethical and socially responsible decision making and managerial behavior
