This course consists of the study of the principles and practices of sharpening tools and equipment used in golf- course operations. Special emphasis is placed on grinding and lapping cutting blades for mowing equipment.

Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:

To develop an awareness for safety in handling mowing equipment during sharpening operations.
To have each student acquire a functional, working knowledge of the basic principles of sharpening reel mowers.
To acquaint the student with the principles of the operation, adjustment, and maintenance of mower drive systems.
To develop the ability to diagnose wear patterns on cutting surfaces.
To enable the student to acquire the ability to back lap and correctly adjust reel mowers to manufactures specifications.
To have each student acquire a functional, working knowledge of the basic principles of sharpening rotary mowers.
