This curriculum consists of two options: Humanities and Social Sciences.
Program Learning Outcomes
A graduate of the Humanities and Social Sciences AA program should be able to:
- Summarize sources accurately and analyze them effectively; communicate effectively through a variety of methods.
- Utilize college-level quantitative skills and scientific methods in problem solving.
- Identify a problem; seek out, gather, organize, analyze, summarize data; and propose a reasonable solution.
- Identify and explain theories, concepts, and systems with respect to individual, societal, and cultural behavior.
- Demonstrate the ability to articulate the societal and/or personal relevance of their studies through reflection.

Curriculum for Humanities Option
SUNY General Education Requirements: Students who intend to receive AA, AS or baccalaureate degrees must satisfy SUNY and campus General Education (GE) requirements to graduate. Students should be aware that GE requirements may vary by academic program. See additional notes below, and consult with your academic advisor for program-specific information; for general information: General Education
AAS and AOS degree students may not be required to fulfill General Education (GE) requirements; however, any student who may wish to transfer should complete as many GE courses as possible. Consult with your academic advisor.

Unrestricted Electives by Advisement
The number of Unrestricted Elective credits will vary depending on the number of credits earned in the other areas. A student must work closely with their advisor to determine the number of Unrestricted Electives needed to graduate.
Minimum Total Credit Hours = 61
Notes
1 The first English is by placement according to competency. Three credits must be in 200-level or higher courses.
2 Mathematics is by placement according to competency.
3 Students must take a minimum of one laboratory science.
4 Students must take a minimum of 3 credits of behavioral and 3 credits of non-behavioral social science courses.
Behavioral social sciences: ANTH, GEOG, PSYC, SOCI
Non-behavioral social sciences: CJUS, ECON, GOVT, HIST
Additional Notes:
- General Education Requirement: All students in the Humanities and Social Sciences options must take at least one course from each of the five following General Education subject areas: Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, and Basic Communication. In addition, students must take at least one American History, Western Civilization, or Other World Civilizations course, and at least one Arts or Foreign Language course
- For this program, HONR (Honors) courses count as English, literature, humanities, or social science electives.
