This course will teach students how to recognize and respond to a diverse student population and how to incorporate diversity into their classrooms and curriculums for pedagogical efficacy. Students will complete a field experience within this course.

- describe the issues related to diversity for today’s teachers and students.
- describe the importance of creating a diverse classroom and school.
- reflect upon the development of his/her own effectiveness in teaching in a diverse situation.
- evaluate the treatment of diverse groups in all instructional materials.
- identify strategies for communicating with all stakeholders in an eduational setting.
- describe historical trends, current research and federal mandates that affect diverse populations.
- incorporate instructional methods and practices that are appropriate for a diverse student population.
