An integrative summary course for senior bachelor’s degree students, this seminar provides an opportunity for students to inquire, research, and contribute as part of a student-oriented group-study program. Teaching methods include lectures, case studies, shared inquiry, and management games. Readings relevant to current topics in the industry are required.
Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:
- Define and discuss the necessary actions that must be taken to be prepared for management position within the hospitality industry
- Articulate the characteristics of effective entrepreneurs and identify resources available to individuals seeking to develop their own businesses within the hospitality industry
- Synthesize knowledge of customer service and value to understand its impacts on profitability
- Examine traditional and contemporary theories of leadership to formulate personal mission statements and leadership philosophies
- Demonstrate an understanding of effective organizational change management through active debate and discussion of the Eight Stage Change Model and its applicability to the hospitality industry
- Formulate a personal and organizational framework for ethical and socially responsible decision making and managerial behavior
