BUSI 430 - Supply Chain and Operations Management

Supply chain and operations management encompasses not only the design and planning of supply chain activities, but also the execution, control, and monitoring that help companies to build a competitive infrastructure and create net value. This course acquaints students with the fundamentals of supply chain and operations management in both the manufacturing and service sectors. Topics include the supply chain model, product and process design, project management, process analysis, total quality management, and sustainability. Students apply these concepts and their associated methodologies to common problems faced by organizations.

Student Learning Outcomes of the Course:
  1. Students should be able to understand and apply the components of supply chain and operations management
  2. Students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between services and tangibles and demonstrate the ability to apply the key elements of service designs.
  3. Students will demonstrate the understanding and application of the fundamentals of demand management, forecasting and the strategic importance of logistics.
  4. Students should be able to define and apply the roles of and types of inventory models. 
  5. Students should demonstrate an understanding of supply chain quality management and its application in services.
  6. Students should demonstrate an understanding of project management and the use of planning tools.
  7. Students will be able define and explain the concepts of lean and Six Sigma management.
